Islamic Foundations

Islam means willing submission to Allah ﷻ, the one Creator, through faith, worship and excellent character.

• Islam teaches worship of Allah ﷻ alone, without partners or intermediaries.
• Its message continues the call of Adam, Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa and Isa—peace be upon them all.
• A Muslim seeks peace through obedience, repentance, justice and mercy.

Allah ﷻ is the unique Arabic name of the one true God—the Creator, Sustainer and only One worthy of worship.

• He has no partner, parent, child or equal (Qur’an 112).
• We know Him through His revelation and beautiful names, without imagining Him like creation.
• Hope, love and awe belong together in a Muslim’s relationship with Allah ﷻ.

Muhammad ibn Abdullah ﷺ is Allah ﷻ’s final prophet and messenger, sent as a mercy and example for humanity.

• Muslims love and follow him but never worship him.
• His verified Sunnah explains and demonstrates the Quran.
• Sending peace and blessings upon him is an act of worship and gratitude.

• Shahadah: testify that none deserves worship except Allah ﷻ and Muhammad is His Messenger.
• Salah: establish the five daily prayers.
• Zakat: give the obligatory share of qualifying wealth.
• Sawm: fast Ramadan.
• Hajj: perform pilgrimage once when physically and financially able.

• Believe in Allah ﷻ, His angels, His revealed books and His messengers.
• Believe in the Last Day and the resurrection, judgement, Paradise and Hellfire.
• Believe in Allah ﷻ’s decree—its good and difficult aspects—while still taking responsibility and making choices.

• The Quran is Allah ﷻ’s revealed speech, preserved and recited in worship.
• The Sunnah is the Prophet’s ﷺ authoritative example and teaching.
• Hadith are individual transmitted reports used to preserve the Sunnah; scholars examine their chains and texts for reliability.
• A Muslim is someone who submits to Allah ﷻ, believes sincerely, worships Him and keeps returning through repentance.
